Now that you have your bar code number (your company prefix & product number,) you can now think about your product's packaging. Typically, how your product is packaged (and if the packaging is already created) will determine how you receive your bar code - either as a digital bar code file or as a self-adhesive label. Each option is better suited for different applications, and we'll explore which one might be best for you.
Products with packaging or labels not yet printed
If your packaging or labels have not yet been created for your product, incorporating original bar code artwork will be necessary.

Products with packaging or labels already printed
For products with packing already produced, pre-printed bar code labels are commonly used. Labels can either be generated internally by a manufacturer or purchased outside from a labeling service bureau. Where labels are produced depends on the number of items, quantity of labels, and type of label required.
